Hey everyone,
I'm really getting into this genre of hip hop, but I don't know what you would even call this type of music, so I'll just provide some examples:
As far as drum patterns go, to me it sounds like most of these artists start with a MPC swing/ J dilla-like snare pattern, and build on it to make it complex.
as far as sampling, I'm pretty much stumped. The producer of the first beat said he got his sample from a mndsgn mix, but I'm not gonna steal that because he did such an amazing job with that beat (in my opinion)
So basically what I'm asking is where should I be looking for these trippy-ass samples? or which genre should I be looking in since I havn't been lucky at all looking into the usual soul/jazz/prog.
(Also if someone could point me in the right direction of how to do flying lotus style compression, I'd be very thankful!)
